VW Unveils ID Buzz Concept Van
For many, the Volkswagen Type 2 panel van generates nostalgia for long-ago route trips and hippy-era flower ability. Notwithstanding, the German automaker's latest Microbus model gives the vintage van an all-electric overhaul.
Still feeling the effects of its 2022 diesel fuel-emissions cheating scandal, VW this week introduced its second electric concept vehicle, the Volkswagen ID Buzz, at the North American International Machine Testify in Detroit.
"The Volkswagen brand's big electrical offensive begins in the year 2022 with a completely new vehicle architecture," Herbert Diess, CEO of VW Brands, said. "Past 2025 nosotros want to exist selling one meg of these [fully continued, all-electric] vehicles annually. We are making electric mobility the new trademark of Volkswagen."
Longer, sleeker, and less boxy than its predecessor, the Volkswagen ID Fizz zero-emissions car features electrical motors at the forepart and rear axles, fully democratic driving manner, a multi-variable seating layout, and a floor-mounted battery for a lower center of gravity.
Though not the fastest car on the road, the Volkswagen ID Buzz accelerates from naught to around 100km/h in about 5 seconds. Plus, its 111kWh battery charges to 80% chapters in 30 minutes using a Combined Charging Arrangement (CCS) or inductive charging interface. Information technology can also re-juice via a conventional household outlet and at public charging stations.
The concept'due south name, co-ordinate to Volkswagen, "is hardly an arbitrary pick": ID stands for "identity," "idea," "private," "intelligent," and "iconic design," while Buzz is a play on "double-decker," and references the silent "buzzing" of the electrical drive arrangement.
